Beth Israel has an “open door” policy, welcoming everyone for the High Holy Days. However, because of safety and capacity restrictions, we highly encourage you to contact us in advance of the holidays.
For those who cannot attend in-person, or prefer participating remotely, we stream our entire set of sanctuary services. The streaming is non-interactive on YouTube.

Members: Members should have received an invoice for seating in advance of the High Holy Days. If you have not received an invoice, or will not be attending, please contact the office.
Non-members and Guests: Please contact the synagogue office to purchase seats.

Security
We anticipate no major issues during the High Holy Days this year. Bangor, Maine is a very safe community, and we have a strong relationship with the Bangor Police Department, who always up their patrols during significant chagim. We also work with the city to close off York Street in front of Beth Israel and Beth Abraham. That said, we will have on-site security and leaders of the congregation versed in our security procedures. We maintain a singular point of entrance, and that is the Epstein Room Lobby at the ground floor entrance off of York Street. While we do not ask you to present tickets, we will check your name against an attendance list.
If you plan on attending and have not purchased a ticket, PLEASE correspond with our office prior to coming. We reserve the right to turn away guests we cannot identify. We would prefer not to, so we ask you let us know you are coming in advance.
About our cantor, Bill Slott
- I’m from Bethesda, Maryland, the proud son of a Zionist father and a Hadassah National Vice President mother.
- I grew up in Young Judaea, attended Camp Tel Yehudah, and spent the year between high school and college on Young Judaea’s Year Course in Israel program.
- I graduated from Cornell University with a B.A. in psychology in 1981.
- I moved to Israel after college, served in the Nachal Infantry Brigade, and settled on Kibbutz Ketura in Israel’s southern Arava desert. I am a member of Kibbutz Ketura.
- I have been happily married to Miriam Reiz of Kansas City since 1986 and we have three beautiful daughters.
- I served as the Program Director for Ketura’s Keren Kolot Educational Seminar Center for 8 years.
- I have been a tour guide since 1997.
- I am a member of the Conservative Movement’s Cantors Assembly and the High Holiday Cantor for Congregation Beth Israel of Bangor, Maine.
