Shabbat

“The Sabbath is the most precious present mankind has received from the treasure house of God.”
– Abraham Joshua Heschel, The Sabbath

It can be a special time to gather with family and friends.  Light the candles, drink the wine, eat some challah!  We welcome Shabbat at Friday evening services with music, prayer, and song, mostly in Hebrew.

Shabbat morning services include traditional morning prayers set to new or old melodies.  We hold a Torah service following the triennial calendar of readings, and read the Haftarah and blessings.  Our rabbi, or a guest or a congregant, will offer some words.  Outside of the pandemic, we will have kiddush followed by an oneg after Shabbat morning services.

Our services are lead by a combination of our rabbi, the occasional b’nai mitzvah student, and members of our congregation.  We encourage and teach our congregants to participate to the extent of their interest or ability.

Occasionally we hold Tot Shabbat, lead by our religious school or others  These services offer families with young children an opportunity to celebrate Shabbat with song and become familiar with our prayers.  Children, of course, are always welcome to join us in the main sanctuary during services.   We like kids and consider them always a part of our congregational family.
