Using Technology on Shabbat and Yom Tov
The use of Zoom on Shabbat surfaces many questions. The Committee on Jewish Law and Standards of the Conservative Movement provides guidance on its usage, but there is no unanimous opinion. Rabbi Bill Siemers and our Ritual Committee have made the determinations of what is acceptable during the pandemic (and moving forward) for our congregation.
We have learned that Zoom and livestreaming have increased accessibility to our services to a range of Jews. This unexpected outcome of the pandemic will inform our offerings moving forward.
